Leashed pets are welcome to participate in either event.
Many awards for people and animals.

All animals on site must be leashed, must be in good health, and enjoy being around other pets.

The AWA shelter is a "No Kill Shelter"
they are totally independent of governmental support, and are dependent on public support to carry out their independent programs of animal rescue, adoption, spaying programs, and healthcare.

Cooper River Park Stadium on North Park Dr. at the running track area, across from the highrise apartments.

Event Day:
5K Run & 5K Walk & 1 Mile ENTRY PROCESS: Entry Opens- 7:00 a.m.

5K Run & 5K Walk Start Time: 8:30 a.m. Sharp (see below for 1 Mile start info.):

5K Run & 5K Walk START Location is approximately 1/2 mile from the registration area at the stadium track. (Heading towards Cuthbert Blvd. Please allow time to walk down to the starting line!)

1 Mile People & Pet Fun Run/Walk Start Time & Locaton: 10:00 a.m. on the track in front of the stadium.

1 Mile Event will be conducted in loving memory of all our special pets who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

1 Mile Pets & People Fun-Run/Walk Registration Packet Pick-Up:
Event Entry/Packet Pick-Up Opens: 7:00 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. in front of the stadium next to the track.

1-Mile Start is 10:00 a.m. sharp
The 1 Mile Start & Finish is directly in front of the registration area at Cooper River Stadium. Perfect for spectator viewing from the stadium seats.

COURSE:
5K Race/5K Walk is 3.1 miles - USATF certified.
3.1 Miles around Cooper River Park on the paved footpath.
Start is approximately 1/2 mile away from the registration area on North Park Drive heading towards Cuthbert Blvd.
PLEASE ALLOW TIME TO WALK FROM THE STADIUM TO THE STARTING LINE!!!
The finish is back at the stadium area on the running track. Mile markers on the course.
Water tables for people & pets will be set up at halfway mark near the Yacht Club area.

1 Mile Run-Walk:
Start & finish is directly in front of the stadium on the running track. Go out half a mile with a U-turn back to the finish line on the track. Most of the walk is on grass.

About Us . . . Animal Welfare Association:
Our Shelter Hours: Monday - Thursday,
1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday - Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Shelter is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergencies.
Closed to the public: New Year's Day, Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
The Animal Welfare Association, or AWA, is a non-profit organization that operates a shelter and adoption program for homeless animals and a low cost spay/neuter clinic.
The association offers a Humane Education program for children and Pet Assisted Therapy in which "therapy" dogs and cats and their volunteer partners visit with nursing home residents.

The AWA, which was founded by a small group of dedicated volunteers, has been committed to the prevention and eradication of animal suffering for more than fifty years. In recent years, the AWA mission to further the understanding of the significance of the human-animal bond and the important role that animals play in enriching the lives of people has become a focus of all the organization's programs.

The AWA shelter cares for more than 4,000 animals a year. Many of the dogs and cats receive extensive veterinary care and rehabilitation from the AWA along with a second chance. The shelter is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day to provide a safe haven for animals in need.

The AWA Spay/Neuter Clinic performs more than 3,500 surgeries a year, a serious weapon in the fight against pet over population.

We can always use donations of merchandise. The following is a list of things we use the most:
