Annual Great Chesapeake 4.4 Mile Bay Swim & 1 Mile Bay
Challenge,
Stevensville, MD
CONGRATULATIONS to
all swimmers on one excellent tough event. The villain of
the day was a current that pulled stronger towards center span
in a southern direction. While the wind and current did
help to also be more at the backs, the water current was also
going strong under the bridge in a southern directions.
Boats were not permitted to assist the swimmers to stay between
the spans. Swim rules dictated that any swimmers who came
out of the swim course had to pulled. No one said it
would be easy. But then its the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim
-- still awesome in every respect. To us, all finishers
are winners. And to those who learned this year was "not
to be" the challenge is still there!
The 1 Mile Bay Challenge had 317 starters with 310 finishers.
The Great Chesapeake Bay 4.4 Miles Swim had 644 starters with
599 finishers.
To the hundreds of volunteers on the water and land -- the event
would not happen without you.
Chuck Nabit, Swim Director . . . another winning year for all.
The top pledge winners will be announced on the:
www.BaySwim.com site.
We will post links here also for you when it is posted.
When a determination is made regarding next year's entry process
(not for a while yet, probably more into the fall), an email
blast will be sent to all who registered for this year's swim
plus it will be posted on the preliminary GCBS 2007 Swim
announcement on this site.
Thank YOU everyone -- it was a pleasure to work with you all.
